Today, Thursday 29 May 2025, an extraordinary meeting of IDIBAPS’ Board of Trustees was held in which Dr Susana Puig was appointed the new director of the institution. Puig is replacing Dr Elías Campo, who has held the position since 2017. The new director was chosen after an international call and an open selection process.
Dr Susana Puig is the leader of the IDIBAPS research group Melanoma: imaging genetics and immunology, the head of the Dermatology Department at Hospital Clínic Barcelona and a professor at the University of Barcelona. This triple affiliation confirms the campus model that integrates Research, Teaching and Assistance and that will continue with the construction of the new Campus Clínic – UB on Diagonal in Barcelona in the coming years. She is also a group leader at CIBERER and a board member of several scientific societies. She graduated in Medicine from the University of Barcelona and specialised in Dermatology in 1992, earning her doctorate in 2000. She has participated in over 30 competitive research projects and more than 50 clinical trials, which have led her to publish more than 500 scientific articles and direct nearly 40 PhD theses and Master’s theses.
It is the first time in IDIBAPS’ nearly thirty-year history that a woman holds this position. The previous directors have been Drs. Joan Rodés, Ramon Gomis and Elías Campo.
