From 3 to 7 July,\u00a0Arnau Guerrero<\/strong>\u202fand\u202fMeritxell Solana<\/strong>, two students who won the Extraordinary Baccalaureate Award for the 2021-2022 academic year, were able to learn about IDIBAPS\u2019 activities first-hand.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Associaci\u00f3 Catalana d\u2019Entitats de Recerca (ACER<\/a>) promotes a programme so that students who have received the Extraordinary Baccalaureate Award can do a stay at a research centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IDIBAPS welcomed two students to do a stay at the institution from 3 to 7 July: Arnau Guerrero<\/strong>, who is currently studying Biochemistry, and Meritxell Solana<\/strong>, who is studying Biomedical Sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strategy director Michela Bertero<\/strong> welcomed them and broadly explained how the institution works and is organised. Aina Rodr\u00edguez<\/strong>, the head of platforms and the biobank, then gave them a tour of the platforms. \u201cWe were surprised by the large number of samples they keep in the biobank and the level of order and management there\u201d, the students explain. They also visited two other platforms, dealing with genomics and cytometry, where they were told how the machines work and which techniques are carried out. \u201cBeing here, I was able to understand much better how DNA sequencing and microarrays work. It\u2019s such a privilege to be able to ask any question and see all the necessary machinery\u201d, Arnau Guerrero <\/strong>says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
